Jason Causey is a leading litigator of consumer law in the States of West Virginia and Ohio. First licensed in 2003, Jason has been appointed as class counsel numerous times by state and federal courts in successful class action cases brought under the West Virginia Consumer Credit & Protection Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Fair Debt Collection Act. He also litigates on behalf of individual consumers and through aggressive litigation has saved dozens of homes from foreclosure. In Brown vs. Quicken Loans, a case alleging predatory lending against one of the nation’s largest lenders, Jason’s efforts not only saved a Wheeling family’s home, but led to a verdict of nearly $3,000,000.

Because of Jason’s extensive experience and success in litigating unfair lending practices cases, he has been called upon by both national and state organizations to speak to other attorneys about how to handle those types of cases. He has spoken as close to home as Wheeling, West Virginia and as far away as Seattle, Washington. These events were hosted by the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the West Virginia Attorney General, the National Consumer Law Center, the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustee’s, the West Virginia Association for Justice, the West Virginia State Bar and the Wheeling Academy of Law and Science. Jason has been recognized annually as a Super Lawyer by his peers since 2018. He was named the 2018 Consumer Advocate of the Year by the West Virginia Association of Justice and elected to its Board of Governors in 2018.
Jason is currently a fellow at the WVU College of Law serving as an instructor and supervisor for law students who participate in the WVU Veterans Advocacy Law Clinic. He also serves as a board member for the Center for Consumer Law and Education (CCLE), which is a collaborative venture between the WVU College of Law and Marshall University to educate consumers throughout the state.
Education
Jason is a graduate of Wheeling Park High School. He later attended West Virginia University where he studied accounting and graduated with honors in 1998. Jason also has a master’s degree in professional accounting from Clemson University where he maintained a perfect grade point average – the first student to do so in that demanding program – and won the prestigious Federation of Schools of Accountancy Award. Jason went on to finish among the top of his class and was selected to the Order of the Coif at the West Virginia College of Law in 2003. Jason was selected to serve as an editor of the College’s Law Review and won numerous scholarship and academic awards during his law school career.
