Tricks from the Insurance Company
Insurance adjusters will sometimes do whatever they can to avoid paying out your claim, even when you are entitled to it. Usually, this takes place when the insurance company believes that you are not being represented by legal counsel, which is why it is imperative to have an attorney on your side. Here are some tricks that the insurance company might try to pull:
Suggesting a Statement: Insurance companies might take advantage of you after you have just been involved in a serious accident. In the days or weeks following an accident, an insurance adjuster might call you and tell you that you should make a statement providing your injuries and damages in an effort to “get you the best results.” However, though the insurance adjuster might seem polite, they might be trying to take advantage of you when you are at your lowest and attempting to get you to admit to at least partial fault so that they do not have to pay out your claim. They will record your statements in order to use them in court, if it comes to it.
Pretending to Support You: The claims adjuster might also imply that they are on your side and will do whatever it takes to help you gain the compensation you deserve after you have been injured. However, they just say these things as a way to gain your trust, even if they do not want to help you. The insurance adjuster might start to pay for little aspects of your treatment or call to check in and “see how you are doing.” In doing so, they might start asking for records and aspects that they can use against you. They might also tell you to hold off, and before you know it, the time limitations you had to file have run out and you can no longer bring a claim. This is a popular tactic that can end badly for a victim.
Using Social Media Evidence: Insurance adjusters might follow accident victims on social media so that they can try to prove that you are liable in some way. They will watch the communication you have with others to look for clues or try to pinpoint photographs of you out with friends and participating in activities in an attempt to prove that you have not suffered as badly as you said you did due to your injuries.
